The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2024 kicked off with a spectacular sight as 60 hot air balloons took to the skies over Bristol. The event took place at Ashton Court Estate on Saturday morning, with the colorful balloons lifting off between 6:45 am and 7:15 am. Despite the early hour, a crowd gathered to witness the balloons inflate and take flight.
Among the balloons that graced the sky were ones sponsored by brands like Thatchers, Bath Gin, and CJ Hole. There were also unique shapes such as a cow, a green alien, and the iconic Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal rocket. One balloon stood out with the message ‘Find Jack,’ bringing awareness to missing student Jack O’Sullivan.
The mass ascent saw the balloons drift in a north-easterly direction over Bristol, passing through areas like Frenchay, Kingsdown, and Redland. Balloon Fiesta organizers have planned three more ascents for the weekend, promising a weekend filled with balloon flights and entertainment.
Flight director Clive Bailey expressed optimism for a “fabulous evening” following a successful Nightglow event on Friday. The Fiesta is set to continue with more ascents on Saturday evening, as well as Sunday morning and evening, offering plenty of opportunities for visitors to enjoy the spectacle.
In addition to the balloon flights, the event also offers various food options and prices for attendees to enjoy. One heartwarming story from the Fiesta includes a pregnant mother who left the festival to give birth, only to return the next day with her newborn baby in tow.
Overall, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2024 promises a weekend of excitement and breathtaking views as hot air balloons paint the sky with vibrant colors. Whether it’s the unique shapes, the thrilling ascents, or the community spirit, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s Fiesta. So grab your binoculars, pack a picnic, and head to Ashton Court for a memorable experience above the clouds.
